September 20 is International Coastal Cleanup day, and Clean Coast is proud to play an important role in promoting this event in Georgia.
Our cleanup on September 22 on Wassaw Island is part of this worldwide event which began over 20 years ago on a Texas beach and now takes place in almost every state in the U.S. and in over 80 countries.
We chose to hold our cleanup a week later simply because the tides are more favorable. Also, many other groups in Georgia will be holding cleanups on various dates throughout September and October. In fact, the statewide Rivers Alive cleanup is now fully a part of the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC).

Data collection is an important aspect of this cleanup. We will fill out data cards enumerating the various types of debris we find. This data will be sent to the Ocean Conservancy for analysis and the results published in an annual report. Visit
